Where the Comrades Are

Every Three-Body fan eventually asks the same question: where are the others?

I asked a friend in Tokyo where he finds fellow Trisolaran enthusiasts. "Twitter," he said. "Search #三体 in Japanese."

A fan in São Paulo told me: "We have a WhatsApp group. 47 people. We've never met in person, but we know each other's favorite characters."

A Reddit user in Montana wrote: "I found r/threebodyproblem two years ago. I read every single post before I worked up the courage to comment. Now I'm a moderator."

Reddit: The Global Watering Hole

r/threebodyproblem is the closest thing to a United Nations of Three-Body fandom.

18,000+ members. Active daily. The tone is serious but not academic — someone will post a 3,000-word analysis of the Dark Forest's logical gaps at 2 PM, and by 6 PM someone else has posted a meme about程心 that makes you laugh despite yourself.

The beauty of Reddit: everyone is welcome. American engineers debate with Chinese students. A British literature professor chimes in on a thread about narrative structure. A Brazilian high schooler asks "can someone explain the Wallfacer Project in simple terms?" and gets five detailed responses within an hour.

If you only join one Three-Body community, make it this one.

Chinese Platforms: The Deep End

三体吧 (Three-Body Bar) on Baidu Tieba is where the hardcore fans live.

This is not a place for casual readers. The分析 here goes deep — people have traced the real-world physics of every single concept, mapped the complete character relationships across all three books, and written fan theories that span 50,000 words.

The challenge: it's all in Chinese. But if you can read it, or even use machine translation, the depth is unmatched.

Bilibili has a thriving Three-Body video community. The best content: fan-made animations of the Droplet battle, analysis videos explaining the science, and a series called "如果三体是一部喜剧" (If Three-Body Were a Comedy) that I still think about.

Twitter/X: The Daily Pulse

Search #ThreeBodyProblem or #三体 on any given day and you'll see:

- A hot take about the Netflix adaptation

- Someone's fan art of the Droplet

- A thread analyzing a specific passage

- Arguments about Cheng Xin (always arguments about Cheng Xin)

Twitter's advantage: it's real-time. When news breaks — a new season announcement, a Liu Cixin interview — Twitter has it first.

The Lonely Places

There are Three-Body fans everywhere. Even where you wouldn't expect them.

A librarian in Montana started a reading group. Four members, meeting monthly in the library basement. "We feel like QY," she said.

An engineer in Albania (you know this story) was the only person in his country who had read Chinese sci-fi — until he found us.

Red Coast Base was built for these people.

---

Reddit has the community. Bilibili has the videos. Twitter has the news.

But Red Coast Base has something none of them have: it was built by fans, for fans. Not by a corporation, not by an algorithm. By people who just wanted a place to call home.

And every day, it gets a little bigger.
