📖 连载背景 | Serialization Background

In 2004, Liu Cixin's novel Ball Lightning (球状闪电) was serialized in Science Fiction World magazine. 🔗 与三体的联系 | Connections to Three-Body

1. 共同角色：丁仪 | Shared Character: Ding Yi

Ding Yi, the protagonist of Ball Lightning, is also a key character in Three-Body. In Three-Body, Ding Yi becomes one of the tragic victims after fundamental science is locked by the Sophons. From Ball Lightning to Three-Body, Ding Yi witnesses the grandest narrative of Chinese sci-fi.

2. 宏原子与智子 | Macro-Atoms and Sophons

The "macro-atom" concept in Ball Lightning shares the same imaginative DNA as the "Sophon" (a proton unfolded into 2D) in Three-Body. Liu Cixin excels at scaling microscopic physics to macroscopic levels, a technique visible in both works.

3. 世界观延续 | Worldview Continuity

The themes of "the cost of scientific exploration" and "courage in the face of the unknown" in Ball Lightning foreshadow humanity's choices when confronting the Trisolaran civilization in Three-Body.
