🌟 From ¥5 to ¥5,000: The Incredible Appreciation of Three-Body Magazine Editions

The Original Home of Three-Body Problem

Did you know that *The Three-Body Problem* wasn't first published as a standalone book? Liu Cixin's masterpiece was serialized in *Science Fiction World (科幻世界)* magazine from May to December 2006 — a total of 8 issues.

Back then, each issue cost only ¥6-8 (about $1 USD). What about now?

Astonishing Appreciation 📈

According to recent second-hand book market data:

| Edition | Original Price | Current Market Price | Appreciation |

|---------|---------------|---------------------|-------------|

| May 2006 (First Installment) | ¥6-8 | ¥800-1,500 | 100-250× |

| Full 8-issue set (2006) | ¥48-64 | ¥3,000-5,000+ | 50-100× |

| 1999 Issue (Liu's debut "Whale Song") | ¥6.8 | ¥500-2,000+ | 70-300× |

The most dramatic single issue appreciation: from ¥6 to ¥1,500 — over 250× return!

A complete 8-issue set cost less than ¥64 back in 2006. Today, dealers are buying them at ¥3,000-5,000. That's over 500× appreciation.

Comparison: Harry Potter First Edition

For context, the first edition of *Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone* (1997, Bloomsbury UK):

- Original price: £10.99

- Current fine condition: £20,000-40,000

- Appreciation: 2,000-4,000×

As one of the most important sci-fi IPs of the 21st century, the appreciation potential of Three-Body's early magazine editions is still in its early stages. With multiple adaptations coming (Netflix, Tencent TV series, films), these early publications will only grow in value.
