Encyclopedia: The Droplet (Strong Interaction Detector)

The Droplet, officially known as the Strong Interaction Probe, is the first probe and weapon sent by Trisolaris to the Solar System. Shaped like a water droplet (hence the name), roughly the size of a car, with an absolutely smooth, perfectly symmetrical surface. It is Trisolaris's first "gift" to humanity — both a demonstration of technology and a prelude to destruction.

The Droplet's surface is absolutely smooth at the atomic level — no atomic-scale irregularities whatsoever. This means its surface has no inter-atomic gaps, representing a "perfectly continuous" form of matter. This surface structure is completely impossible in human physics.

The Droplet's matter is directly bound at the nuclear level by the strong nuclear force. In normal matter, molecules are held together by electromagnetic forces, while atomic nuclei are bound by the strong force. The Droplet extends this mechanism to the macroscopic scale — all atomic nuclei are directly "welded" together by the strong force, creating a nearly indestructible structure.

The Droplet's surface reflectivity approaches 100%, making it look like a perfect drop of liquid metal in space. Its reflection is so perfect that observers see only reflections of the surrounding environment — like a finely crafted artwork in the cosmos.

In 2015 AD, the Earth United Fleet (approximately 2,000 warships) encountered the Droplet near Saturn's orbit. Humanity mistakenly believed it was a messenger sent by Trisolaris for negotiations and even formed an elaborate military parade to welcome it.

The Droplet's attack was brutally efficient:

After annihilating the fleet, the Droplet remained in the Solar System monitoring Earth. It persisted as a Trisolaran deterrent even after the establishment of the Deterrence Era. After deterrence failed, the Droplet attempted to prevent Gravity's broadcast but ultimately failed.
