📅 January 2023: Tencent's "Three-Body" Premieres

On January 15, 2023, Tencent Video's "Three-Body" series officially launched.

Background

This was the first official screen adaptation of Three-Body. The production cycle exceeded four years. The team invested enormous effort in fidelity — from Red Coast Base sets to the Three-Body game's visual effects.

Reception

In China, it received extremely high praise:

- Douban score: 8.7/10

- Praised for being "highly faithful to the original"

- Three-Body game CGI received special acclaim

- Ye Wenjie/Chen Jin's performance called flawless

Difference from Netflix Version

Tencent chose a completely different path — extreme fidelity.

All 30 episodes focused on Book 1, recreating dialogue and scenes almost word-for-word. For book fans, it was a dream come true.

Netflix chose a freer adaptation path — compressing storylines, merging characters, changing the setting.

Two paths, two choices.

But without Tencent's success, Netflix might not have accelerated its Three-Body project.
