🔬 The Science in Three-Body: What's Real vs Pure Sci-Fi
Liu Cixin's work is known as "hard sci-fi" — but which of his concepts are based on real physics, and which are pure imagination?
Real or Theoretically Possible
Three-Body Problem ✅
The Trisolaran homeworld's triple-star system is based on a real celestial mechanics problem — three massive bodies under mutual gravitational attraction with no general analytical solution. It's a genuine mathematical problem.
Alcubierre Drive ⚠️ Theoretically possible
Based on Mexican physicist Miguel Alcubierre's 1994 theory — achieving faster-than-light travel by compressing and expanding spacetime. Mathematically possible within general relativity, but requires negative energy or exotic matter.
Dark Forest Theory ❓ Pure logical derivation
Not physics, but "cosmic sociology." It's a logical conclusion derived from two axioms and two concepts — but whether its premises are valid is unverifiable.
Pure Sci-Fi Imagination
Dual Vector Foil ❌
The concept of dimensional attack — compressing 3D matter into 2D — has no support in any current physics theory. Pure imagination.
Trisolaran Dehydration ❌
Compressing one's body into a "skin" in vacuum, then rehydrating — completely violates biological principles.
Thought Hard Seal ❌
Implanting irreversible beliefs in the subconscious — currently impossible in neuroscience.
Liu Cixin's View on Science
Liu Cixin says: "Sci-fi is not scientific prediction. Sci-fi uses scientific elements to build a stage, and then performs the drama of human nature on that stage."
So don't ask "Is the Dual Vector Foil really possible?" — ask "If it were real, what would humanity do?"
That's the core of Three-Body.
