📜 Science Errors in Three-Body
Liu Cixin's sci-fi is "hard sci-fi" — but not flawless. Here are some scientific "bugs" found by fans.
1. Light Speed Limit
Premise: Trisolaran fleet travels at 1/10 light speed.
Issue: At that speed, any cosmic dust would generate enough impact energy to destroy ships.
2. Sophon Communication
Premise: Sophons use quantum entanglement for instant communication.
Issue: Quantum entanglement cannot transmit information. It's a fundamental quantum mechanics limitation.
3. Dual Vector Foil Speed
Premise: The Foil spreads at light speed.
Issue: If it spreads at light speed, humans couldn't see it coming — it would arrive simultaneously with its light.
4. Stable and Chaotic Eras
Premise: The Trisolaran world has regular "stable era" and "chaotic era" alternation.
Issue: In a real three-body system, planetary orbits are completely chaotic — no "regularity" is possible.
5. Dehydration Energy
Premise: Trisolarans dehydrate and rehydrate.
Issue: Where does the energy go during dehydration? How is it regained during rehydration?
Why These Don't Matter
Liu Cixin said: "Sci-fi isn't a scientific paper. Sci-fi uses scientific elements to build a stage for human drama."
These "bugs" don't affect Three-Body's value as a novel. In fact, finding them is part of the fun of being a Three-Body fan.
