🎭 Zhang Beihai: Three-Body's Most Underrated Hero — Twenty Years of Hidden Conviction

🎭 Zhang Beihai: The Lonely Victor

In Three-Body, there's a character without the title of Wallfacer, yet he executed a twenty-year "Wallfacer plan" known to no one.

His name is Zhang Beihai.

A Lie

Zhang Beihai was a political commissar in the Space Force. He projected unwavering conviction to everyone — "humanity will win." He championed reactionless drive research. He spoke passionately at military meetings. He made everyone believe.

Everyone believed him.

But his true belief was the opposite: Humanity cannot win.

Twenty Years of Wallfacing

From the moment he realized humanity couldn't defeat the Trisolarans, Zhang was executing a plan known to no one:

1. Push for reactionless drives — enabling long-range travel

2. Gather critical resources — preparing for escape

3. Hide true intentions — let everyone believe he was a "victoryist"

He didn't need the Wallfacer title. He was his own Wallfacer.

The Assassination

To stop the reaction drive route (which would strand human ships in space), Zhang assassinated three key scientists.

Not in anger. He prepared for years. He chose the most effective targets. No hesitation.

Because he knew — if he didn't act, humanity had no future.

One Second of Hesitation

In the Dark Battle, Zhang's Natural Selection waited with other survivors in the chain of suspicion. He had waited so long, prepared so much — then in the moment of firing, he hesitated.

One second.

Another ship fired first.

Zhang Beihai died. Humanity lost its most far-sighted commander.

Why He's the Real Hero

Zhang wasn't a Wallfacer, but his plan (escapism) was the only方案 that could preserve human civilization.

Luo Ji's plan (Dark Forest deterrence) was a "stay and fight" victory. Zhang's plan was a "leave and survive" victory.

If Cheng Xin hadn't stopped Wade's light-speed ship plan — she was only completing what Zhang Beihai started.
