🚀 Breaking: "Three-Body 2: The Dark Forest" Starts Filming in 2026
At the Shenzhen Golden Forest Blooming Night event in March, executive producer Bai Yicong officially announced: "Three-Body 2: The Dark Forest" is expected to begin filming in 2026! This marks the moment when the most core chapter of the Three-Body universe — the Dark Forest principle — will finally grace our screens.
🎵 The Funniest Moment: Zhou Shen vs Zhou Bichang
The announcement sparked a hilarious exchange:
- Zhou Bichang applied on the spot: When Bai revealed the filming plan, Zhou Bichang immediately asked if she could sing the theme song
- Zhou Shen fought back: Bai noted Zhou Shen sang Season 1's theme, and when Zhou Bichang joked "we can change singers," Zhou Shen yelled from the audience: "Don't change me!" — later on stage he campaigned: "There are many theme songs, please don't fire me!"
Fans called it "the cutest song-stealing battle" 🔥
🎬 Prequel "Three-Body: Da Shi" Approved
According to China's National Radio and Television Administration's February 2026 filing, the spin-off prequel "Three-Body: Da Shi" has been greenlit:
- Original cast returns: Supervised by Liu Cixin, directed by Yang Lei, starring Yu Hewei (Shi Qiang) and Zhang Luyi (Wang Miao)
- 12-episode series: Picks up after the "Operation Guzhen," with Shi Qiang and Wang Miao reuniting over a nanomaterial theft case
- Air date: Slated for CCTV's 2026 lineup, and will stream on Tencent Video
🤖 AI Technology & Chengdu Filming
Bai revealed prep took two years, and generative AI forced the team to scrap some old plans — a new AI-driven pre-visualization approach may be born. The team hopes to leverage the unique landscapes of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan to bring the book's complex scenes to life.
> Bottom line: 2026 is the year the Three-Body universe explodes — from the Dark Forest principle to Shi Qiang's bromance with Wang Miao, a brand-new sci-fi feast awaits!
