Shi Qiang: The Most Underrated Character in Three-Body

In the Three-Body Problem, everyone is solving cosmic-scale problems. Luo Ji is wallfacing. Ye Wenjie is betraying humanity. Zhang Beihai is fleeing. Thomas Wade is going mad. Only one character keeps his feet on the ground the entire time: Shi Qiang.

Who Is He?

A former military police officer. Big, rough-looking, dirty leather jacket, reeks of cigarettes, loud voice. He first appears as a crude man, but turns out to be the character with the soundest common sense in the entire trilogy.

What He Did

When scientist Wang Miao was driven to suicide because science was being locked by the Sophons, Shi Qiang pulled him back with one line: "If something is too weird to explain, there is always a trick behind it." Simple. Not profound. But exactly what was needed.

He does not understand quantum mechanics. He does not understand cosmic sociology. But he understands people — and in a story like Three-Body, that is the rarest skill of all.

Why Fans Love Him

Shi Qiang is the one character you would actually want as a friend. No calculations, no pretenses, no complexity. Just a good man protecting his world in his own way.

In a story about the destruction of civilizations, Shi Qiang represents the simplest value: no matter what happens out there, life goes on here.
